Marshall D. Teach, also known as Blackbeard, is a pivotal and antagonistic figure in the One Piece world. He began as a crew member of the Whitebeard Pirates' second division, biding his time for years.
Teach's defining trait is his ambition and ruthlessness. He murdered Thatch, the fourth division commander, to obtain the Yami Yami no Mi, a Devil Fruit granting him the power of darkness. This act violated the Whitebeard Pirates' code and led to his expulsion.
Following his departure, Teach formed the Blackbeard Pirates, quickly gaining notoriety for his strength and cunning. He orchestrated events leading to Whitebeard's death and the Marineford War's conclusion. Afterwards, he seized Whitebeard's Gura Gura no Mi power, making him the only known individual to possess two Devil Fruit abilities.
